My partner and I have owned and managed several brick and mortar businesses over the years, including a craft shop/gallery, a landscaping services/nursery, and a small cafe. There was no web as we know it the first time around, but as we started new ventures we brought technology along for the ride. I know first-hand the problems faced by a small, independent establishment, and relying on traditional sales and marketing channels alone is no longer enough. I've been helping people use computers and the internet for more than 30 years. I've written dozens of how-to guides, self-paced training courses, and am co-author of an O'Reilly book Office 2003 XML. My role has always been that of translator — from "geek speak" to everyday words and phrases understood by us all.
